Meadowview Golf Course – Mattoon, IL.

Although my golf game is still in the early stages of development and my list of “Played Courses” may not be very long, this is by far my favorite place to play!!!

Hidden amidst the corn fields of East Central Illinois, Meadowview Golf Course is located in the quaint little country town of Mattoon, IL. (183 miles south of Chicago) But don’t let the location fool you. The course is as well kept as any I have seen and a challenge for all level of players.

I had the pleasure of playing there this past Thanksgiving weekend and I took some pictures while I was there. The below video walks you through the course from start to finish with some great photos of its picturesque landscaping.

You can see that the fairways are fairly wide and the greens are nicely manicured, but don’t let these fall photos mislead you…miss these fairways in the summer and your gonna need another ball…and practice your bunker shots because if you are human, you are bound to hit one of them eventually…but don’t worry about stocking the water hazards, I’ve already put plenty of balls in them…lol.

In addition to the short cut rough areas, the best part about playing this time of year is the price. At $25.00 with a cart, this course is well worth the drive from Chicago. Even in the peak season at $39.00 with a cart you can’t beat it.

The driving range is wide open with plenty of targets for honing your swing and the practice area includes 2 large putting greens to work on your short game.

If you need new gear or maybe a lesson, Kelly Spaulding is the PGA Professional on site. He offers private lessons as well as several group clinics and youth programs throughout the year. I have had the pleasure of chatting with him on numerous occasions and in addition to his vast knowledge of the game he always has a smile.

My recommendation is to make a weekend of it and while you are there check out the outlet mall in Tuscola, IL or browse the Amish shops in nearby Arthur, IL.
